Hi everyone. I wanted to share the upcoming technique classes I’m planning on teaching at Needlepoint.Com! It’s back to school time, so it seems like the perfect opportunity to brush up on those tricky techniques you’ve always wanted a little bit of help with this August or September. Sign up for one or take all three!
Turkey work and Lots of Knots classes teach how to do tricky stitches that don’t diagram well in a book. Open work backgrounds class teaches how and why to select different background stitches. You are bound to learn a ton!
Call the shop to secure your spot or to ask for more information at 919-828-5538.
Can’t make it to Raleigh?! Consider taking the class online!
Ps. Subscribe in the box on the right to eat updates about classes and other events first!
Hi everyone! Happy Sunday! It is so muggy here in NC it’s tough to be outside. Not to mention that it rained four times yesterday! If today is anything like yesterday, I think there is a lot of stitching in my future! Today on Stitch Style I wanted to share the new instructional booklet I’ve just written for Needlepoint.Com. It’s called “An introduction to Decorative Stitches.” It’s designed for any needlepointer who is looking to try out different stitches for the first time, or who wants to increase their stitch vocabulary!
The packet focuses on where and how to decide what stitches to use, and has lots of suggestions on what each stitch works well for! The booklet is $17.50 and can be found online here.
This booklet is a sequel to Needlepoint.Com’s book “How to Needlepoint.”
I could not be more excited to share this news with you all today… the nativity is back from the finisher! Those of you who have followed this blog for a while will know that this piece has been a big focus of mine for the past two or three months, and I’m so glad to finally see it in it’s completed state!
As always, Diana Sagmoe (The Needlework Finisher) worked her magic to bring the stitched piece together at the end. Getting a box of finishing back from her is better than Christmas morning! I opted to have this one finished as an easel back, so the back of it looks just like a picture frame. This is especially handy because it folds flat which makes it easier to store. I love the gold and navy cording and the beautiful blue silk that was selected for the backing.
I can’t wait to teach this class at our next A La Carte Retreat. There are so many different techniques to learn- beading knots, or nué- to name just a few. It’s always such a fun weekend. The canvas is exclusive to Needlepoint.Com. Class is Friday March 16, from 9:30 to 4:00 in Raleigh, NC. You can read about our other class offerings online here- take one or take many! Joan Lohr will be teaching several technique classes, and Nancy Young will be teaching the gorgeous two sided Father Christmas and all about Elizabeth Bradley canvases.
If you can’t be there with us, call and ask about preordering a kit to ensure retreat pricing.
We’d love to have you join us.
The class is designed to teach all things “knotty”- there are nine different techniques included. You’ll learn everything from French Knots, French Knots on a Stick, Colonial Knots, Bullions, and their many variations. The class also teaches where and why to use different stitches, and what threads work the best for them. Knotted stitches add such fun texture to your stitching, and give an effect that you can’t achieve any other way. I know you all will love it!
Class includes blank canvas, stretcher bars, lots of fun threads, a printed stitch guide and 24 hour video access to your online class! Best news of all? Buy a technique class now and you have permanent access to it in your Needlepoint.Com account– they never expire so you can use them as a reference forever and ever. How great is that?
Below you can see several of the fun stitches we cover in this class.
You won’t want to miss out on this wonderful in home stitching experience!
I have been stitching away at this Kirk and Bradley Nativity just about as fast as I can to get it ready for next year’s Raleigh Retreat! Since I last posted, so much has been done, so I thought I’d share a nativity stitching update with you all! I love when I get to the point with a canvas that I can finally see the finished project coming together.
The biggest thing I’ve gotten done was to get a background stitch in. I was hoping to come up with something that resembles a starry night sky
I’ve also almost completed the wise men and finished Baby Jesus. I just love the way he came out swaddled in ribbons!
The palm trees are almost done- my favorite part is the coconuts up in the tree! This was a really fun effect to add. And I loved coming up with some fun furry textures for the animals.
I hope that you all will be able to join me in Raleigh, NC on Friday March 16th for the class! Now that I’m closer to being finished with the canvas, the class has been priced out at $525. A $100 deposit (applied to the total) will hold your spot! This includes all of the materials you need, class instruction and lunch at the Carolina Country Club. It’s hard to believe that the class is already over half way full- so if you’re interested don’t hesitate to give us a call. More information can be found here on the website.
If you can’t join us, call and preorder your kit. There will only be a limited quantity available, so don’t wait.
Hey everyone. Happy Friday! I hope you all have a wonderful weekend planned with friends and family. I wanted to share a 2018 Needlepoint.Com Retreat Sneak Peek with you all! You may remember how much fun we had from the pictures on my blog I posted last year. I’ve been working on this nativity for the last few weeks, and am truly having the best time. I thought I’d share my progress with you all! Isn’t it gorgeous? The colors are so fun and the design is unlike anything I’ve ever stitched before.
I will be teaching this class at Needlepoint.Com’s 2018 Raleigh A La Carte Retreat from March 16th-18th, 2018. I would love to have you join me. We are still working on specifics on pricing as the canvas is not 100% done, but feel free to call the shop for more information or to sign up. A $100 deposit will hold your spot, and the classes are filling up quickly!
I really love that Vernon made the entire nativity scene one piece. No reason to pay to finish eight different characters, when you can just stitch one piece instead. As you can tell from my pictures, there are going to be a ton of fun techniques covered in class!
Hope you all have a wonderful long weekend!
PS. Only a few more days to shop the kit sale before it’s all over for this year!
